   What would make for an interesting article is how this protest was created by a UFO cult, the Raelians. According to the Huff Post, “members believe that humans were created by advanced scientists known as the “Elohim,” and that not allowing women to go topless is an insult to the aliens’ artistry.” The cult also attempted to fool the world into thinking their cloning science had created the first clones babies. http://www.nytimes.com/2003/01/01/us/for-clonaid-a-trail-of-unproven-claims.html

   Considering how few Ashevillians like to adhere to critical thinking, this protest, and the lack of knowledge about its origins, doesn’t surprise me.

      Except that “boobs” makes for much more interesting headlines. How many of the yokels that turn out for or against this event give a single rip about the wacky alien politics?

      Regardless of whence it was formed, this spectacle has come to symbolize the worst of Asheville and the Bible belt on both sides.

      I wish these fine folks would give it a rest, and take their misguided protest of something that isn’t illegal here to some other small town. Asheville is growing weary of these shenanigans and obvious attention seeking behavior from the right and the left.
