GRIFF’S KITCHEN & BAR

Originally posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 8/13/2021

I went to Griff’s Kitchen & Bar with my good friends Jill (aka The Worthy Baker’) & Jimmy, and boy howdy, we had a fantastically delicious meal! Every single bite of every single dish was super yummy and delicious! We started out with the chicken nuggets in creamed corn with honey and crispy collards. Wow. The nuggets were so perfect, and the creamed corn was fresh, snappy, warm, creamy, and sweet without being too sweet. Next the kitchen sent out the grilled shrimp buns. They were like little, light pupusas (Jimmy called them pancakes) that were crispy on the outside, with shrimp, greens, and a tiny amount of chili oil on the inside, to give it a wee kick. We also shared the crab salad, with cucumbers, cubed & fried green tomatoes, mint, basil, and tomato oil. It was to die for! Highly recommended. For my entrée, I took Chef Ian‘s recommendation, and ordered the pork shoulder, with pepper jelly, creamy succotash, Roma tomatoes, and crispy onions. It was simply incredible. I can’t even express to you how satisfying, and delicious this plate of food was. From the very first bite to the point where I was too full to eat any more, I thoroughly enjoyed the textures, and flavors, and deftness of preparation. It was excellent! Jimmy got shrimp ‘n’ grits and Jill got a trio of bruschetta. I tasted theirs, and they were also excellent! All of the food was top notch, as was the service and atmosphere. If you haven’t been to Griff‘s Kitchen yet, get on out to Candler, and get it in ya!

PS – Chef Ian gave me burger to bring home and try later, I’ll keep you posted on that when I reheat and tuck in.

DESCUBRE ASHEVILLE PAMBAZO

Posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 8/12/2021

I ate a crazetastically great sandwich this afternoon called a PAMBAZO that my friend Luis from Descubre Asheville brought to my house. It unique, not quote like anything I’d ever seen or tasted. It was made by home cook Brenda Cabrera, and is apparently, like, THEE sandwich that represents Mexico City. I’d never heard of a pambazo before, but if Ms. Cabrera ever opens a restaurant, this thing would instantly become one of the most popular sandwiches in Asheville, without a doubt. Like a lot of sandwiches, the Pambazo is named after the bread, pambazo, which is dipped and fried in a red guajillo pepper sauce then filled with potatoes, chorizo, cheese, lettuce and what-not.

[Below] are my pictures of the amazing pambazo sandwich that my friend Luis from Descubre Asheville brought me yesterday. It was made by home-cook Brenda Cabrera and had potatoes and chorizo and cheese and other stuff. It. Was. Insanely. Good.

MY EPIC DELIVERY JOURNEY

Originally posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on  8/04/2021

Y’allllll… I’m about to embark on a new, months-long journey, through every menu of every Restaurant Partner on the entire roster at Kickbackavl! ALL. OF. THEM. One after another after another after another… it’s going to be an epic trek of tooth and tongue, that will include many a tale both tall and true! Mostly true. I’ll start my pilgrimage in the next week or so, and keep on going until, much like the mythical Pokemon, I have collected them all. And then I’ll start at the beginning and do it all over again.

You can see them all HERE.

As many of you know, I started working for KickbackAVL — Asheville’s ONLY local food delivery service — during the pandemic, and I have loved it! It’s a great company, run by a great person, my boss, Jennie, and I feel super-proud to be a part of it!

I am about to leave-but-not-leave the company soon, however (I’ll still be doing a lot of their social media), in order to get back into my usual gig with Asheville Food Tours.

In order to stay connected to the Kickback delivery world, and the restaurant partners that I worked with at Kickback, I’ve decided to eat my way through the entire roster, and then go back and start over, sharing words and pictures of everything along the way of course!

Stay tuned! And if you’re a food maker who would like to be included in my delivery deep dive, but you’re not signed up with Kickback yet, you can apply with them HERE.
