NANI’S ROTISSERIE CHICKEN

Posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 6/01/2021

Naynay neenee nono nunu Nani’s Rotisserie Chicken’s family meal comes with a whole chicken, 4 sides, flat bread, and a salad! For my sides I got the charred and chilled green beans, the braised winter greens, taters au gratin, and their INSANELY delicious savory corn pudding. I ordered my bread “with the chicken,” and you can see it there, under the whole bird. This is one of my strongest recommendations for all y’all chicken lovers!

Some of my favorite food in Asheville comes from HomeGrown! I’ve been going for at least ten years. I used to be able to walk there when I lived in NAVL, but these days I get it delivered via Kickbackavl. Those grits are some of the tastiest in town!

THE MALVERN via KICKBACK

WAKUWAKU EATERY

Posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 5/28/2021

Y’all! I had some amazing “Oshizushi” and other Japanese dishes from Chef Naomi Mikami of Wakuwaku Eatery!
She also texted me this great history and description of the food!

“Since it’s home style foods (mostly) please let me explain little more.
Takoyaki Octopus ball is Japanese street foods from Osaka / Kansai.
Chicken Katsu is one of popular dish here in Asheville.

Sides

Hijiki seaweed with carrots, Age/thin fried tofu and Edamame.
Bamboo shoots stir fry (seasonal)

Sushi

We call it Oshizushi / pressed sushi. Originally it’s from Osaka.

Unagi / eel with shanshou Japanese green pepper

Ebi Mayo / shrimp, cucumber and avocado. Topped with QP Mayo and shichimi (Japanese chili)

Umekyu / Umeboshi paste, cucumber and radish. Cream cheese and ume paste inside

Since I grew up in Kyoto. And my grandma grew up in Osaka. Most of my menu and flavors are inspired from Kansai area (Kyoto, Osaka and Hyogo /Kobe)”

Everything was on point and super delicious. Chef Mikami sells online only, check her website!

Pick-up is Twice a week in the RAD (Thu and Fri lunchtime) and in North Asheville (674 Merrimon) pick-up is Tue, Wed, Sat and Sun for both lunch time and dinner time, and Thu and Fri for dinner time pick-up.

Make this a thing that you do, Asheville!

DINNER: IMPOSSIBLE FOOD TRUCK RALLY

Posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 5/27//2021

Pretending to drink beer could be a lucrative new gig for me. Call my agent for bookings.

The local trucks that competed against Chef Robert Irvine yesterday were Asheville Tacos & Taps, Root Down food truck, and Bun Intended Food Truck. At one point a guy from the taco truck called-out Chef Irvine to a wrasslin’ match, but that clown took off runnin’ when the big man answered the challenge! ???

I judged these four desserts at the food truck rally [at Rabbit Rabbit] yesterday, one of them was made by celebrity Chef Robert Irvine! I’m actually not sure if I’m allowed to tell you who won, because it’s for an upcoming episode of Dinner: Impossible. The desserts were all excellent! The sunshine was BRUTAL. The event was fun.

This guy.

Thank you, Carey Harnash, Mike Rangel, the Food Network, and Chef Irvine for inviting me to this unique event!
