-Malaprop’s speed dating: Check this, from Malaprop’s bookstore:

It was a match made in heaven…well, actually a bookstore! You’ve trusted your booksellers to help you ride off into the sunset with the perfect book. This Valentine’s Day we are taking our matchmaking to the next level. Bring your current or favorite book and meet other readers for a lively hour of speed-dating hosted by booksellers Justin and Erin. Registration required, so we can make sure there’s someone for everyone to check out (library pun intended). Email [email protected] or [email protected] with your name, age, and a little about yourself to register.

-Dance party: Check out this dance party, set for The Underground, which is behind O’Henry’s:xlamour_asheville_2014

-Dinner Date at The Venue: This looks great. Check it out:

On February 14, 2014, The Venue owner and event planner Marta Bodenhorst and her team are hosting their first signature event: a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner with wining, dining, and musical entertainment by members of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra.

Featuring an art deco-inspired façade and spacious, two-story interior, The Venue at 21 North Market Street has been the staging ground for countless wedding parties, corporate meetings, and top Asheville fêtes and fund-raisers. Now, The Venue will get to play host.

“Since we have this beautiful space that goes unused part of the time, I have a background in event planning, and Steve Boeger is an incredibly talented chef that we’re lucky to have, it just makes sense to begin producing our own events,” says Bodenhorst. “We have all the components to be successful.”

On Friday, February 14, The Venue’s “Dinner Date” presents a cocktail hour with appetizers starting at 6 p.m., followed by a four-course meal with wine pairings at 7 p.m. Executive Chef Steve Boeger has prepared a decadent menu of items such as lamb popsicle appetizers with mint caviar, creamy lobster bisque, a sweet and savory cheese board, and charred beef tenderloin, among other delectable bites. Live music by cellist Ron Clearfield and violinists Andrew Pettigrew and Ginger Kowal, all members of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra, will entertain dinner guests. Cocktail attire is recommended; black tie is optional.

As an added touch, Bodenhorst offers a creative and romantic way for guests to invite their dates. Wine bottle vases bearing personalized invites on the labels come with three red roses. The invite package is $15, and for $25 The Venue staff will deliver the surprise invitation to your date.

Tickets are $150 per couple.

The Valentine’s Day fête is the first in a series of Dinner Dates in the works for this independently owned establishment. For reservations, call The Venue at (828) 252-1101 ext. 305 or email [email protected].

This is a dance for every body! It’s super simple, crazy fun in a completely judgment-free zone! Even if you don’t think you can dance…just come experience it. You can’t get it wrong.

You don’t need any experience or prior training. It’s about what is unique and right about your body. Wear comfortable clothes. Bring water and a friend.

Any donation amount welcome. Suggested donation: $10
