Check out this fun festival/event organized by Malaprop’s Bookstore and CafeIt’s called Yallapolooza. It’s happening in September and October. And it will feature young adult fiction writers (otherwise known as YA authors). Asheville has some of the best YA and middle-grade authors in the country living right here, event organizer Melanie writes in a heads-up note about the event. Here’s more:

We have an incredible line up of authors coming to Asheville in Sept and Oct this year and will be working to pull them together as a two-month-long festival called YALLAPOLOOZA.

Next Wednesday we will send out an email with the festival details, as well as prizes and incentives for participating in the festival (by coming to multiple events). We’ll also give you details about the books and authors, and some posters and flyers we’ll be using for promotion.

That’s awesome. Here are the YA events scheduled so far:

-9/15 at 6 pm NYT bestseller Marie Lu/Warcross

-9/21 at 6 pm Sarah Prager/Queer, There and Everywhere: 23 People Who Changed the World

-9/24 at 2 pm NYT bestseller Alan Gratz/Refugee and Ban This Book (a local author and a launch event)

-9/25 at 6 pm NYT bestseller Stephanie Perkins/There’s Someone Inside Your House (a local -author and a launch event)

-NYT bestseller Kristin Cashore/Jane, Unlimited

-10/03 NYT bestseller Libba Bray/Before the Devil Breaks You *Launch! (Ticketed and offsite at Masonic Temple with a costume suggestion and some fun additions to make it a night to remember. More details to come.)

-10/10 Amy Reed/The Nowhere Girls (this is a local author and a launch event: Authors for Action event with OurVoice present; Amy’s book tackles rape culture.)

-10/23 Alexandra Duncan/Blight LOCAL and S. Jae Jones/Wintersong and Jessica Khoury/The Forbidden Wish

2 months, 11 authors, 12 books

Stay tuned for more details.
