prince_1_2014Rumors are flying hot and heavy that Moogfest 2014 organizers still have a big musical guest up their sleeve. This year, as you know, is the first year for a revamped Moogfest that will see the April event in Asheville expand into a 5-day event that has a massive line-up of panels, speakers and workshops by top tech folks and brainiacs, a tech expo and job fair, as well as top-notch musical performers.

And it’s the music that seems to keep people talking. Names like Prince and Pharrell have been chatted up around town as possible surprise Moogfest acts, all mentioned more as hopefuls than likely contenders. And just about every Moogfest fan is dying to see Daft Punk come to Asheville, though that seems unlikely.

This year, Moogfest is teaming with Paxahau, a “revered producer” of Detroit’s Movement Electronic Music Festival, according to Billboard. Here’s what Billboard said last April about Paxahau:

Revered music-focused events specialist Paxahau, which also fronts the annual Detroit Jazzfest, brings to the festival what the Moog team considers much-needed electronic music acumen, and an awareness of the significance of Dr. Moog, who died of brain cancer in 2005 at the age of 71.

“We set out to find a new partner with a real understanding of the dynamic history of electronic music, and that has a deep appreciation for the impact Bob Moog’s inventions have had on musical expression and creation,” said Moog Music president Mike Adams in a statement. “After working with them for three years on their festival in Detroit, we knew Paxahau was the right choice to help us take Moogfest 2014 in the direction we envision.”

Prince is an interesting act. He’s been touring with his all-female act 3rd Eye Girl, a move that music mags are saying will likely put Prince in a much bigger spotlight in 2014 than he’s had in recent years. And early this year, plenty of Moogfest fans were hoping that the Outkast reunion tour would make a stop in Asheville.

Could any of these acts end up in Asheville in April? Who knows. Keeping an ear to the ground as the Moogfest 2014 countdown begins.

I don’t think they would wait this late to add a major headliner. From a business decision standpoint, you want to announce the major headliners ASAP to get the buzz/ticket sales going. Not wait and pull it as a ‘surprise’. Unless it is truly a last minute addition.

No go on Prince… his tour dates are booked for such dates… i would love to think Daft Punk… but lets be realistic…. so that leaves Pharell… at that point just bring the NEPTUNES!!!

Seems more like you’re trying to start a rumor, rather than offer “rumor control” about existing rumors.
