Wow do you ever go to one of those new restaurants and say “That meal was how much?” So wanted to like this place but for the quality and the portion you got was outrageous! Good luck making it in Asheville with all the amazing places to choose from!
I’ve been to the one in Nashville, and it sucked. I don’t think they were using local ingredients, to speak of, more than most other businesses do. Greenwashing, basically.
Admittedly, I had this experience at “Farm Burger.” Fine food, friendly folks, but goodness the bill was steep.
Sweet. I’m excited to have another restaurant using local foods. I’m not particularly concerned that there are other “Local Tacos.” I don’t mind small chains until they’re bought up by equity firms or the mega chains that are beholden to investors. See Greenlife and EarthFare which started out on the right path but sold out eventually…Maybe ten years from now Local Taco will get bought up like EarthFare and start bringing in high fructose corn syrup and factory meat….but for now I say welcome to town.
I think the name is stupid (mainly because it is not very creative), but I welcome Local Taco to downtown. I’m sure Atlanta is excited about Chai Pani moving in (and I would NEVER want to deprive someone of Chai Pani), and I had one of the best burgers of my life at Farm Burger (another CHAIN, the horror!).
I think it’s great that a proven business is moving in to replace a failed local restaurant, who cares if it’s a chain? It’s not like Margaritaville is moving into the S&W building (and yes, that means that not all chains are created equal).
how can a company from Nashville open on Lexington avenue of all places and say it is local? i’d love to see who the investors are for all of their stores.
Hey Peter……maybe Shorty has room on the back of his bike for you. Not sure what their investors have to do with it but it’s a small group, 3 guys from Nashville to be exact (the internet is your friend). I’m sure they have a local partner but really, who cares. This isn’t Chipotle Mexican Grill we’re talking about here.

They’re called “Local Taco” because their gimmick is that they use local ingredients. There’s no reason whatsoever that the name should be seen as offensive, or misleading, or in any way inappropriate for “Lexington avenue of all places.” And what the heck does that even mean?
He means that only bootstrap “hole-in-the-wall” enterprises are welcome on Lexington Ave., no chains allowed. It’s a kind of reverse snobbery.
Meanwhile, an actual local business, Liquid Dragon, moved to Merrimon Avenue after the owner of Bouchon dropped a building on his head. No worries. Local Taco is here! Bring your fedora and dog, and all is well!
The owner of Liquid Dragon was a major douche bag so good riddance. I do feel sorry for the people that worked there

Subway, another chain, closed its location on Battery Park today so it’s all copasetic …
I’m sure the fine people of Chattanooga, Knoxville, Greenville and Johnson City said the same thing when Asheville’s own Tupelo Honey decided to open locations in their towns. These Local Taco guys have 5 locations so I guess that makes them a chain in your little world. Might be time for you to roll on out of downtown on your old fixie with your PBR under your arm. I hear West Asheville calling your name.
