A team from House of Raeford, a North Carolina-based, family owned poultry producer, sold 40-pound boxes of chicken breasts, wings, thighs and tenders directly to consumers on April 21 at the WNC Ag Center. The crew sold two tractor-trailer loads of chicken products in 90 minutes as area residents in their cars lined up to wait for nearly two hours. -The next House of Raeford chicken sale in our area is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, at Pisgah High School in Canton. The poultry producer will be selling 40-pound boxes of chicken breasts, wings, thighs and tenders. When this sale went down at the WNC Ag Center this past week, House of Raeford sold out of two tractor-trailer loads of chicken in 90 minutes, as folks lined up and waited in line for up to nearly two hours. Heres’ the cost: Tenders $45; Jumbo Boneless Skinless Breasts $45; Jumbo Boneless Skinless Thighs $35; Jumbo Drumsticks $20; Frozen Jumbo Party Wings $45.
-Daddy Ds on Wheels food truck, an off-shoot of the Daddy Ds Soul Food Restaurant in Hendersonville, has been posting up at the Gas Up on Haywood Road for the past couple of weeks, dishing out tons of tasty food to go. Owner Michael Darity Jr. was overwhelmed at first by the enthusiastic local response. Check Daddy Ds page on FB for updates and hours. (Right now, it looks like they’ll be back next Saturday after selling out of food today.)
-WALK restaurant on Haywood Road in West Asheville has announced that it plans to reopen with to-go food starting Monday, April 27. Instructions on their FB page for ordering, pick-up.
-Haywood Common is morphing into Haywood Common Market and planning to reopen on May 1. Details to come.

-The Rhu, the coffee and back shop that’s connected to Rhubarb restaurant, is now operating more as a bakery and pantry. From The Rhu on FB: “The Rhu has always been a bakery + pantry with a commitment to local producers. Now you can find Dry Ridge farm eggs, Gaining Ground Farm produce, Farm to Home Milk, in addition to pantry staples, cooking and cocktail equipment, and prepared meals. Oh, and the other essentials: toilet paper, beer + wine! Open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
