food_connection_2_2015Food Connection is a new effort of Ted and Flori Pate, the founders of the Local Flavor AVL smart phone app. “Food Connection collects surplus food from restaurants and caterers and delivers the food to those who will enjoy it, reducing food waste and easing hunger,” according to their page on Facebook.

The partnership has the Local Flavor crew teaming up with Asheville Taxi, Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church and several local restaurants to collect leftover food and deliver it to agencies that serve the needy.

More as I get it.

I’m an advocate of individuals or small groups dumpster diving, (I’ve found some ridiculously large amounts of good clean food in dumpsters before) and individuals can take responsibility for themselves. But I wouldn’t want to introduce that as a resource for a public program.

This might be the only good idea to come out of Asheville in ten years.
