Here’s more of what’s going around, including new ownership at Jack Young Greenhouses. Here we go:

Jack Young Greenhouses, a Candler nursery that’s been in business for about 45 years, recently changed hands. The group of new owners plans to keep everything pretty much the same, aside from a few necessary equipment updates (and the end of the use of pesticides that kill honeybees). The new owners held a successful grand opening/reopening event this past weekend.

-Space in what is now the former Asheville Citizen-Times building is being marketed as up for lease. A downtown Asheville property owner and developer recently bought the O.Henry Avenue building that’s been home to the newspaper for 80 years. The new owner is planning to renovate, and lease out, much of the space. (The newspaper plans to lease back space from the new owner and remain in the building for next few years.)

-Allegiant airlines is defending itself after a 60 Minutes report Sunday night highlighting serious safety concerns at the airline. Allegiant has been a major part of recent growth at Asheville Regional Airport. Here’s the brief on Allegiant at the Asheville airport.

-Word on the street: Sears at the Asheville Mall will be closing in July. Plans are in the works to completely remodel the Sears store and add new adjacent structures, including new apartment buildings. Here’s the background on the plans for Sears at the Asheville Mall.

-Word on the street: Parking meters are coming to the Asheville South Slope. I haven’t seen any details on plans for that yet, but will be checking.

-Demolition equipment is in place at former Buncombe Sheriff’s Office on Haywood Street, where a developer wants to build an Embassy Suites Hotel. The city of Asheville is fighting that in court, but the developer has said he’s willing to start construction anyway.

-Mike Morrell, the new head men’s basketball coach at UNC Asheville, will be formally introduced to the Asheville community on Tuesday. Morrell replaces former UNCA coach Nick McDevitt, who recently took a new head coaching job at Middle Tennessee State following a successful tenure in Asheville.

-Spotted in Asheville: Ashvegas food writer Stu Helm reports that celebrity chef Michael Symon was spotted in downtown Asheville on Sunday. Symon is a regular on Food Network and Cooking Channel shows.
