AVL WING THING UPDATE

[ There’s no episode of the AVL Wing Thing Podcast this week, due to technical difficulties, ie: I’m stupid and Zoom is hard ]

Posted to my personal Facebook page on 4/6/2021

Yesterday, Rick and I learned a bunch of stuff from Davyne Dial about the video conference software that we’ll use for our podcast on WPVM 103.7 (Community radio featuring the arts & culture of Asheville). Also, I decided to resurrect my old Food Fans radio show logo, theme song, and basic format, and incorporate The Wing Thing into that. Luis and Jennie will join us this week if they can, we’re doing Tienda El Quetzal all over again, because I wasn’t happy with the way our Zoom podcast came out last week. My fault, tech issues. Arg. Davyne agreed to produce our new show until I learn how. Stay tuned!

IGGY’S ROCKIN’ TACOS / ASHEVILLE YACHT CLUB

Posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 4/5/2021

I took a walk down to the one and only Asheville Yacht Club for Iggys Rockin Taco night. $2 and $2.50 tacos and more! Best price in town for some dang tasty noms! I got a black bean, a chicken, and two beef “crunchies,” and they were fuckin’ goooood. Oh! And they had a bunch of my “wear a fucking mask” signs hanging up! Hell yes!!! Thanks, Iggy!

Earlier that same day…

I’mma go get some Tacos’s from Iggys Rockin Taco thing at The Asheville Yacht Club

The next day on my personal Facebook page…

[ Before you judge me, I have of course eaten thousands of soft tacos in my endless lifetime, but a mood is a mood, and I was in the mood for crunchy tacos. ]

I have about 6,225 followers on Facebook, and my page reach for the last 28 days was around 21,000, which is actually a little low for me. Getting “good reach” is important to me, because that means more people are seeing more food from more local, independently owned restaurants, and that’s my number one goal! My friends at Zambra invited me to try their new brunch, knowing that I would post pictures and words about it later, which I did. They wanted me to let y’all know what they’re doing, and according to my reach on this brunch post so far, it seems like the word is getting out there! I know that people wanna support local restaurants, cafes, bakers, food truck, etc, but they don’t always know how, when, and where to show their support! I try to facilitate if I can. ? Thanks for clicking, sharing, commenting on, and “liking” my posts! That helps to increase reach a lot!

ZAMBRA FOR BRUNCH

Posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 4/3/2021

I went to Zambra for brunch today. Sat in the enclosed patio. Felt safe. Ordered the shrimp n grits. Felt sooooo satisfied. Delicious food, in one of Asheville’s best spots. Recommend.

Hi Y’all! I have been fully vaccinated, so I’m venturing out again, and Zambra, who have been around for 21 years, started offering brunch for the first time ever this weekend, so I went early, when I knew it would be less crowded, and the social distancing was great, all servers in masks, I felt totally safe, and the food was delish! I am experiencing some social anxiety after being cooped-up for a year, but I expect that one day soon — like a miracle ? — it will disappear too!

Brunch is back! I used the SHIT outta brunch almost every weekend, then I started doing tours on weekends, and then there was this pandemic thing, but now I’m getting back into brunch, and have started with Zambra! Yum!

Hi WAX! I hope you’re having a good weekend so far! I just wanted to let you know that Zambra started doing dine-in brunch this weekend. i went yesterday morning and got shrimp ‘n’ rice grits (aka broken rice, or middlin’s) and it was delish! I know that Zambra is very popular, and I love it too! Check ’em out for brunch if you can, and have a great day!

ZIA TAQUERIA FOOD TRUCK at OLDE LONDON ROAD

Posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 3/31/2021

I went back to Zia Taqueria Asheville’s food truck at Olde London Road in the RAD again today to get their green chili smash burger, and more Buffalo wings. Everything was great! Just what I wanted. I’m gonna be a frequent flyer, I can tell already.

GRIND CAFE

Posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Instagram page on 3/31/2021

I stopped by Grind AVL to grab coffee and a treat! Yum! I can’t wait to tuck into both!

[ They were both great! The coffee is a special Grind blend roasted by Dynamite Roasting, and the blueberry muffin, along with another treats at Grind, is from The Rhu Bakery. ]
