Two Asheville Citizen-Times reporters are leaving the newspaper. Jordan Schrader, the newspaper’s reporter covering the General Assembly in Raleigh, is moving to Olympia, Wash., and education reporter Ashley Wilson is headed to Atlanta.

Schrader’s done a great job of keeping track of Western North Carolina’s lawmakers there. He’ll be missed.

From the Olympia News-Tribune:

We are pleased to announce, however, that we have hired Jordan Schrader to cover state government and politics. Schrader comes to us from Raleigh, N.C., where he was the state government reporter for the Asheville Citizen-Times and North Carolina correspondent for USA Today. He’s a Michigander and a graduate of the University of Michigan. We were impressed when we interviewed him last month at how much homework he’d already done on the state of our state. He’ll be here Jan. 25.

It will be interesting to see if Schrader’s the position gets filled. Individual newspapers have been closing down statehouse bureaus over the years to save money, leaving the work to be done mostly by wire services.

Wilson, in turn, has done a great job on the Citizen-Times‘ education beat, a key beat for any newspaper that aims to keep closely connected to its community. Schools are tied to so many aspects of the community that you really need a dedicated reporter to stay on that topic. Word is that Wilson is getting married this spring. She, too, will be missed.
