More of what’s going around:

-A process to help guide the growth and development of the South Slope in Asheville starts Thursday with a 6 p.m. meeting to begin a “visioning” process. It’s an important meeting, and an important process. Here’s your chance to get involved.

-Asheville sports and tourism officials will hold a 10 a.m. press conference on Tuesday at the US Cellular Center to announce a new tennis event for the city. WLOS-TV has reported that Asheville is interested in hosting the first round of the Fed Cup, the international women’s team tennis competition.

-Buncombe County commissioners will hold a 4 p.m. press conference on Tuesday in their conference room on College Street to announce that they’ve filed a lawsuit in the battle against distribution of opioids.

-The city of Asheville is seeking proposals for consultant services for design and planning city-owned space on Haywood Street/Page Avenue.

-The Asheville Police Department has released a new online crime-mapping tool. The press release is here.

Asheville City Council meets Tuesday. One hot item on the agenda: a proposed apartment complex in the heart of the River Arts District. The developer and City Council have been going back and forth on how to incorporate affordable housing units into the project. There’s background on Stoneyard Apartments here.

-The Asheville Holiday Parade is Saturday. This year’s Grand Marshal is Beth Copeland, a former WWE professional wrestler who lives in town.

-The WNC Diversity Engagement Coalition Supplier Diversity Committee will hold an economic summit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the US Cellular Center targeting construction contractors. More:

The summit’s intent is to focus and raise awareness of the amount of construction contracting for our region in the local, state, federal and private industries and is aimed at government, prime contractors, design firms, subcontractors and suppliers. Discussions will focus on how the more than $3 billion in economic opportunities can impact the local economy and stimulate more diversity and inclusion.

-Asheville Outlets shopping center will welcome Santa Claus on Saturday at 5 p.m., according to a press release. Santa will lead a parade featuring Enka Candler Fire Department and Enka High School Band leading all the through the center to officially light the 24-foot tree located in front of Forever 21, according to the release. 

-The Center for Craft, Creativity and Design will host a curated holiday pop-up shop Dec. 1-3 in downtown Asheville. Look for ceramics, textiles and more.
