Here’s a nice note from loyal reader Rebecca:

Jason,

Coming out of a Page Ave office bldg in the wee hours Thursday morning, a couple of guys at a bright shiny outdoor vendor cart across from Basilica called out “Cuban coffee, is ready!” I walked over there thinking, sure, it’s Cuban coffee (not). But it *so* was. About 5 cups of coffee in an espresso size serving, with sugar. Ahhh. A once in a while treat. Follow as soon as you can with some protein, and definitely drink your water that day. But what a start to the AM!

Realized after trying to make a lame joke about going to high school in So. Miami and there were more Cubans than Anglos there, and they just smiled at me, that they probably really were Cubans and not much English going on. Spanish speaking, anyway. But the combination of a kind of brash energetic energy wguke also polite made me think of Calle Ocho, near where I went to high school.

Check them out if you get the chance, seemed like maybe an interesting story there. Not that many Cubans in Asheville that I know of.

Rebecca

Thanks for posting this! I was introduced to Cuban coffee in Miami last year and have been on a search for the stuff in Asheville. Gonna check it out this week.
