We have a winner! Reader Mari has won the Big Box of Baked Goods from Geraldine’s Bakery by naming the piece of mystery art below “puella aeterna,” which is Latin for “eternal girl.” Congrats to Mari, thanks to everyone who participated, and thanks to Fred at Geraldine’s for donating the prize! Good times. Stay tuned for more contests right here on Ashvegas.coma s well as on my own blog.
It’s time for another contest! This time, in honor of the trip to New York City that Dawn and I took, I have arranged for one of you lucky ducks to win a big ol’ box of awesome New York City style baked goods from Geraldine’s Bakery on Merrimon Ave right here in Asheville!
As you may or may not know, Geraldine’s owner/baker is Fred Dehlow, who is from Long Island. Fred’s family ran a bakery up there for generations, and he moved to Asheville a few years ago to open Geraldine’s, which is named after his mom. Fred makes all kinds of kick-ass baked goods, including a lot of New York City classics like chocolate cigars, babka, black and white cookies, and of course donuts and danish and pretty much everything you would associate with a typical New York City Bakery! I love Fred’s baked goods, and I know you will too.
Please make up a TITLE for this artwork and POST IT IN THE COMMENT SECTION BELOW.
Dawn and I attended a ton of art fairs and museums in NYC, and I only allowed myself to take pictures of food-related art. This was one of my faves! That’s an actual person — a young woman — playing on her iPhone while watching TV from a fuzzy bean bag chair. Part performance art, part installation, part video art, the box of Cheez-its and giant marshmallow bunny — as well as the plush doo-doo emoji — really sold me. I loved it!
Stupidly, however, I did not write down the name of the artist, or even the title of the piece. Damn it! Now I’m counting on you guys to make-up some clever titles at least, and if you want to make up a clever name for the artist, I’ll give you extra points.
Got it? Just to be clear:
I will hand-pick one lucky entrant based entirely on how clever their made-up title is, and I will announce the winner next Thursday, March 31st.
So frickn’ easy. Do it!
Congrats to Laura C. who won FREE LUNCH with me at Mojo Kitchen and Lounge in the “Win the Wings that Won The Wing War” contest! We had a great time and ate some great wings!
Thanks for participating, Laura, and being a fun lunch partner! And thanks to Mojo Kitchen for treating us to wings, salad, and dolmas!
