Without further ado, the weekend:

Thursday

The Annual Mountain Dance and Folk Festival @ Diana Wortham Theatre

Performances at 7 pm

Happening throughout the weekend (ThursdaySunday), this is the 89th annual edition of the country’s longest-running folk festival. Experience the best of the best in regional traditional and old-time music and dance. A different show starts at 7 pm each night from Thursday on.

CloZee + BomBassic, Hyperbolic Headspace, and Wizo @ Asheville Music Hall 

9 pm

French producer Clozee, who started producing electronic music at the tender age of 16, is bringing her signature EthnoFusion/Trip-Hop sound to the Asheville Music Hall. Openers BomBassic, who hail from AVL, will light up the stage beforehand. Other opening support from Hyperbolic Headspace and Wizo.

Friday

Clawhammer Oktoberfest Release Party @ Highland Brewing

4 pm

We can’t believe it’s already Oktoberfest time, but we’re so excited it is! Head on out to Highland Brewing to sample their fantastic Clawhammer Lager. Highland is celebrating in the traditional German style, with live music from Lagerhosen, German food, and more. $1 from each pour goes to the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy.

7 pm
Hunter Stabler is a visual artist best known for his paper cutouts. He will be presenting a new body of work at The Satellite Gallery.

The Unicorn Ball @ the Grey Eagle

10 pm – 4 am

Unicorns, circus arts, live music, and a glitter wrestling pit. From the ultimate party throwers, the Two Queens Production Company. A world-class photographer will prove you were there in your best unicorn suit.

 

Saturday

The Color Run 5K @ Downtown Asheville

8 am

Asheville’s favorite 5K, the Color Run, sets off from downtown Asheville on Saturday run. Expect even more color than in years past.

Annual Village Art and Craft Fair @ Biltmore Village

Starts at 10 am

A great arts and crafts fair at the Cathedral of All Souls. Saturday and Sunday.


Barbed Wire Suit
 @ Toy Boat Community Arts Space

Runs Friday and Saturday at 8 pm
Anam Cara Theatre Company’s new ensemble-created play, Barbed Wire Suit, is inspired by the works of Flannery O’Connor and Jean Toomer. Explore and reimagine the experience of being a Southerner with the performers as they take you through a world of “dusty chairs, trinkets, and minds suspended in time.” Also runs next Thursday and Friday!

Julian Price Documentary @ the Wedge Brewing

8 pm

Mover and shaker Julian Price is the subject of the acclaimed new documentary showing out at the Wedge on Saturday night.

Pierce Eden’s “Farewell to the Dirty Work” @ the Grey Eagle

9 pm

After playing together for 10 years, Pierce Eden says farewell to the Dirty Work at the Grey Eagle. With openers the Hot Knives.

Sunday

Brother Wolf Adoption Day @ Second Gear

11-2 pm

Find your best furry friend at Second Gear!

The Resonant Rogues @ the Sierra Nevada Amphitheatre 

2-5 pm

Asheville’s own beloved Resonant Rogues play out at the Amphitheatre. Have some delicious food and drink and hang out with the Rogues!

    Pisgah Brewing Company is hosting Dark Star Orchestra for their annual “days between” residence this Friday and Saturday night on the outdoor stage. Captain Midnight Band plays after in the tap room Friday and the Screaming J’s are up on Saturday. Single day tickets are still available. Come celebrate the spirit of the Grateful Dead and the memory of Jerry Garcia on the days between his birthday and tragic death.
