What up, Asheville? If you love the weekend like we do, you’ll love our roundup of weekend events! We also have a special announcement about Underground Sound: The Path to Music Video Asheville. We are so thrilled about this contest, open for submissions now on ashevillegrit.com/undergroundsound. If you’re a musician, upload an amateur video of yourself playing an original song. Voting opens on September 16, and the winner will get $2500 towards a professionally-produced music video AND a guaranteed spot in the 10th annual Music Video Asheville event. Enter now–and pass it on!
Happening throughout the weekend (Thursday–Sunday), this is the 89th annual edition of the country’s longest-running folk festival. Experience the best of the best in regional traditional and old-time music and dance. A different show starts at 7 pm each night from Thursday on.
French producer Clozee, who started producing electronic music at the tender age of 16, is bringing her signature EthnoFusion/Trip-Hop sound to the Asheville Music Hall. Openers BomBassic, who hail from AVL, will light up the stage beforehand. Other opening support from Hyperbolic Headspace and Wizo.
We can’t believe it’s already Oktoberfest time, but we’re so excited it is! Head on out to Highland Brewing to sample their fantastic Clawhammer Lager. Highland is celebrating in the traditional German style, with live music from Lagerhosen, German food, and more. $1 from each pour goes to the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy.
Unicorns, circus arts, live music, and a glitter wrestling pit. From the ultimate party throwers, the TwoQueens Production Company. A world-class photographer will prove you were there in your best unicorn suit.
