Bomba: New downtown bar, eatery and lounge is open

The new bar and lounge from Salsa’s/Modesto/Chorizo restarateur Hector Diaz, Bomba, is open. (We hear that the Salsa storefront is scheduled for a new mural this weekend, as an eye-catching treat next door to Bomba).

Bomba is serving Diaz’ homemade donuts, 1000 Faces espresso, cocktails and tapas-style bites. Diaz also plans for room for dancing and a late-night menu.

Asheville Scene shares a little about what to expect:

Diaz, also the owner of Modesto and Chorizo, said Bomba’s hours will be different from those of Salsa’s, with some light breakfast fare available as early as 7 a.m. A barista will turn out strong espresso drinks like Cuban coffee, available as late as midnight on weekends.

Lunch will entail small sandwiches and other hand-held fare. In the evenings, Bomba will have a menu of tapas-style bites, such as tiny tacos and conch fritters.

Cocktails — mojitos, margaritas and the like — will also be small (under eight ounces) but with the same potency of full-sized drinks. It’s very much what Diaz intended when he first opened Zambra, a restaurant now under different ownership. “It’s all about being little here,” he said. “All you get is a bite.” Prices, Diaz promised, will be equally bite-sized.
