Asheville woman and her team wins Olympic silver in track cycling

Asheville’s Lauren Tamayo won a silver medal with her team today in the track cycling event of the 2012 Olympics. Asheville Citizen-Times reporter Bob Berghaus, who is in London covering the games, got some reaction from Lauren about her win and posted it on his blog:

Some quick reaction from Lauren Tamayo, the Asheville cyclist who earned a silver medal with Dotsie Bausch and Sarah Hammer in track cycling team pursuit on Saturday.

The Americans lost to Great Britain, which was being cheered by thousands including Paul McCartney.

GB led from start to finish. Tamayo sat out the first two races and gave the Americans fresh legs but Great Britain was two strong racing to its third straighr world record in 3:14.051. The U.S. finished in 3:19.727 after setting a national record in the semifinals.

“They’re a step above all the other countries. “We knew it would be a tough battle,” she said.

Congratulations to Lauren and her U.S. team!
