The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and Asheville on Bikes are collaborating on a new ride series designed to mix business with leisure. Asheville Rides begin on Thursday, May 8th and continue throughout the summer on the second Thursday of each month. Asheville Rides are free of charge and open to the public. The ride gathers at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce parking lot at 5:30 and departs at 6:00pm. Each ride is roughly an hour in duration and covers anywhere between five and seven miles.
Michael Jordan of the Asheville Area Chamber came up with the idea while on vacation in Colorado. “We already have a lot of cycling interest in Asheville. I felt that this would be a great idea to get more people out riding around our city.” Jordan has worked with Michael Sule of Asheville on Bikes before, so when he returned to Asheville, Mike Sule was his first phone call. “I knew Mike would love the idea. He and Asheville on Bikes are the experts in this town for social organized rides.”
“Each ride is designed with a theme and is geared for people looking for an afterwork stretch and time in the fresh air. The rides are built for people who are curious about riding as well as for experienced riders looking for something social. Each ride is about an hour in duration and has a particular focus. For example, the first ride highlights greenways and parks, the second highlights downtown, and the third celebrates Asheville’s views. It’s great to be working with the Chamber and designing experiences that celebrate Asheville’s commitment to active transportation.” says Sule of Asheville on Bikes.
Jordan says “Everyone is invited as the rides are easy and fun. And you might learn a little more about Asheville, its businesses and neighborhoods along the way.” The first ride is May 8th. For more information go to: ashevillerides.com.
