wcu_art_show_tannery_2014Here’s the info, from loyal reader Leigh:

I am contacting you in regards to a recent art show I thought you might be interested in seeing or writing about. My name is Leigh Ann Parrish and I’m a graduate student at Western Carolina University. Our art department held its first art show outside of Jackson County last Friday night at the Tannery Studios in Asheville. It was a wonderful collaboration of MFA, BFA, and alumni artwork with live music from local band, The Goodness Graceful.

The Mountain XpressKyle Sherard has an excellent review here. From his story:

Its featured works offer a cross section of the department’s breadth. Offerings include ethereal displays and recreated space. They suspend time and draw on themes of simulation and temporality.

The show sprawls through The Tannery’s two expansive hallways and into no less then a half-dozen of the building’s 16 studios. Wood-fired stoneware and blown-glass sculptures stand freely beside digital and hand-printed photographs, oil paintings and watercolors. Several mixed-media installations fill studios temporarily left vacant because of this year’s excessively harsh winter.
