I lived in Asheville for 50 years and never heard of the South Slope.Where is that?
Larry, it’s the southern portion of the city’s central business district. Coxe Avenue, Banks, Buxton, Asheland, Hilliard….
Word is that they are going into the back portion of the new space on Bank St in the South Slope. This is where the new BBQ restaurant, Vortex Doughnut, and Public School Bar is being built. South Slope quicking becoming the Brewery District.
Catawba should consider Weaverville
Agglomeration economies suggest that wouldn’t be an optimal choice.
I know but will never tell muhahaha!
That Catawba tasting room in the Village is so close to a bar that I’m not sure there’s a meaningful difference. They’re not brewing the beer on site, and they officially stay open until 10 pm on weeknights and 11 on Fridays and Saturdays, but are often open later. On busy days their patrons take over the whole parking lot plus adjacent spaces across the street, often blocking access to the only other remaining business in that strip, Old School Subs.
Nearly all the other tasting rooms in town close down at 8, even on weekends, to avoid competing with the local bars . . . not clear why Catawba has decided not to follow the standard pattern. It’s definitely working for them, though, business is booming!
That’s an old paradigm…
Burial closes at 10pm. Wedge closes at 10pm. Oysterhouse 11pm. Dirty Jack’s is 9pm on weekdays, 10pm on weekends. Asheville Brewing and Wicked Weed both have restaurants I guess but close at midnight. French Broad is the only place I can find that closes at 8pm.
Highwire also closes at 11 weekday nights..
