Share

Hello, Asheville! Here’s another Food Feed for you! The words and pictures below were originally posted to social media, mostly Facebook. I hope that you will enjoy them, and that you will be able to get some, if not all of the delicious food items listed here, in reverse chronological order. Scroll down through the past…

AVL WING THING RECAP

My friend Rick and I are doing something we call The AVL Wing Thing. We’re eating all the chicken wings, and recording podcasts about them. Some,  though not all, of the posts below are part the our AVL Wing Thing adventures.

So far we’ve covered wings from East Village Grille, Iconic Kitchen and Drinks, Creekside Taphouse, Deli Llammma Food Truck (2X), and Manicomio Pizza Food.

SIPPIN’ FOR SERVICE

Posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 3/09/2021

So, yeah, I judged beers yesterday. ? I don’t drink, so I judged strictly on the pour. There were also a few beer cocktails. The other judges drank, so it wasn’t just me! LOL The participants were The Yacht Club, The Social Club, Bier Garden, Jack of the Woods, Ben’s Tune Up, and Westville Pub.

The winners were:

Best Mixed Drink: The Social
Best Irish Pour: Jack of the Wood
Best Irish Coffee: Bens Tune Up

You can purchase Passports to visit all the participants March 10 – March17, 2021

All participating places will be running the Irish food specials that I posted yesterday. [below]

To get the Passports go to: https://www.ashevillestrong.com/sip

YACHT CLUB / BIER GARDEN / JACK OF THE WOOD

Posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 3/09/2021

The three winning dishes from yesterday’s Sippin’ for Service event were…

Best Flavor: Asheville YachtClub’s insanely tasty and savory Shepherd’s Pie.

Best Presentation: The Bier Garden’s ALSO insanely tasty — and black-peppery! — Shepherd’s Pie.

Best Composed Irish Dish: Jack of the Wood’s beautiful and delicious corned beef and cabbage! That was some of the best cabbage ever!

All of these dishes will be available at the venues March 10 – 17. You can purchase “passports” to bring to all the participating restaurants by going to: https://www.ashevillestrong.com/sip

All proceeds go to feeding people in need, and if you fill out the passport completely, you get a great gift from Asheville Sport and Social Club!

This was the first food event I’ve been to in a really long time and it felt great to get out there again. (all masked-up and socially distanced of course!) Thank you to the producers : Jameson Irish Whiskey, Baileys, Highland Brewing Company, Asheville Strong, Shay Brown Events, and The Asheville Masonic Temple.

Better days are on the horizon, My Friends! Stay safe in the meantime, we’re in the home stretch! ❤

Y’all, it’s kinda hard to tell from the pictures, but these “bling wings” from Deli Llammma Food Truck have edible glitter on them! They are beautiful and delicious! And those tots are perfect! EAST VILLAGE GRILLE

Posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 3/2/2021

Got those tiger wings from East Village Grille, and they were great! I also ordered the meatloaf dinner and the Carolina crickets, and the restaurant sent over their new “Attila the Hen” chicken sandwich for me to try. YUM! So much great food! Thanks EVG, and thanks to my AVL Wing Thing compatriot, Rick, for delivering and hanging out on my porch for a chilly lunch together! ⛄️
