"Buddy",
My wife and I own the restaurant. We converted a very small 1300 square foot space into the White Duck Taco Shop. We did the design, permitting, construction, inspection, equipment installation all ourseleves. While the restaurant itself has been open five months we were at it long before the doors opened. In the five months since we have opened we've fed more than 40,000 people. We have completely paid ourselves back for our original investment and have cash reserves of 6 months sitting in the companies checking account.
If there is another definition of profit I'd like to know what it is. Our staff and us are very hard working and we are tired. Our little restaurant needs to take a break. I have heard the complaint, twice, that our food doesn't cost enough. I've heard hundred of times how happy people are to eat affordable, fresh food. We have always known that quality and affordability are what the current market supports.
We are also giving our full-time staff a full paid vacation while we are closed.
Thank You for your comments and patronizing our restaurant.
What's it like to wake up and not be able to accurately read a post?
What's it like to wake up and hate on other business owners success?
Let me try to answer everyone in one post. First, I never said anything negative about the food or the restaurant. I've been there 4 or 5 times and I like it. I think they price their food too cheap, but that is for them to worry over, not me. Second, a line out the door is not an indication of one penny's worth of profit. That's been the downfall of many a restaurant. Third, I didn't have a problem "back in the day". My place was opened and operated successfully by myself and staff for 45 years. I retired from the biz. And what I said was, that if they require a month off for "much needed rest" after only 5 months in business, they ain't gonna make it long. I stand by that statement. If you own a full service joint, you better be able to put in the hours LONG TERM or it's gonna eat you. And no thanks on the consulting gig. Been there, done that, and bought the T shirt.
Where does it say worn out? Maybe they'll hire you as a consultant and you can work for them!
Buddy…Have you been to the White Duck Taco? It's fantastic! On many days, the line is out the door. If the food is great, you can do what you want. Perhaps that was your problem back in the day.
The WD is a wonderful eatery in Asheville. When they re-open, they'll have at least one weekly customer. Congrats on having so much business! Being successful is not a bad thing, Buddy. Looking forward to Taco [Thursdays].
Sorry there Kit Kat but I am a retired restaurant owner of 45 years. I don't care how many hours they work, if they're worn out after 5 months, they ain't gonna make it long.
the owners of WD probably easily put in twice as many hours a week as you do at your 9 to 5, buddy. quit yakkin' and go eat a taco.
I like this place but they've only been open like 5 months and they already need a month long "rest" ?? Owners might want to consider a 9-5 job. If they are worn out after 5 months, they won't last long.
Closed on Fridays?
