Raising Urban Chickens at the West Asheville Library: A Step-by-Step Guide to Your Own Nest Fresh Eggs!

Urban Hen Enthusiast Cathy Williams explains the mechanics of starting your own backyard flock.  Responsible humane ownership, breed selection and coop design, and tips on how to maintain good neighbor relations will be discussed.  Learn what makes an urban chicken happy and healthy.

Williams and her organization Asheville City Chickens spearheaded positive changes in Asheville’s new poultry ordinance.  This program is free and no registration is required. Offered in conjunction with the library’s community wide reading program, Together We Read and our 2009 book selection “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle” by Barbara Kingsolver.
