Happy December! It’s hard to believe we’re heading into the new year, but we propose celebrating 2016 (or the arrival of 2017) every weekend from here until January! Here’s what’s on tap this weekend. We also threw in a very special Monday event for you, because the end of the weekend doesn’t mean you need to stop the festivities!
12/1-3 (and every weekend in December); 7:30 pm
One of Asheville’s most beloved holiday traditions, The Bernstein Family Christmas Spectacular has brought the same actors to the stage for the last three years to perform completely new material each year. It’s screwball sketch comedy at its finest as the drunken Bernsteins face off with the holiday season. This adults-only show is sure to sell out, so get your tickets now.
This late-night dance party, called “the funkiest all-star tribute in show business,” will feature special guests, including Nick Etwell of Mumford and Sons, and a whole lottadancin‘!
This free show celebrates Cpt. HyperDrive’s newly released EP, Burning Roses. A testament to love won and lost, it’s the perfect listen for dancing out your own heartbreak and moving on. Special guests include BomBassic’sBruceyB, Koresma, Spitty the Sequel, EmE, Murkury, and more. More details in Grit’s preview.
Saturday, December 3

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Dogwood Alliance, an Asheville-based non-profit that works to protect Southern forests, this all-day event at the Salvage Station is free and family friendly. The day’s events include storytelling by Doug Elliot, live music from Phuncle Sam, Krekel and Whoa, and more. The finalists and winner of the Asheville Grit/Dogwood Alliance Flash Writing Contest will also share their stories to kick off the day’s events! Come by and stand strong with Southern forests.
Two holiday shopping opportunities that let you shop local for handmade and vintage items. Stock up on unique items for your loved ones! The Flea for Y’all runs from 9 am – 5 pm, the Big Crafty is from 12 noon – 6 pm.
Bar Wars voting ends Friday, so remember to turn in your ballots! Four finalists will be selected based on public voting, and will head to the finalist judging round at the Salvage Station, where judges Philip Greene, Graham Averill, and Dusty Allison will pick the winner. Your $10 ticket gets you a taste of every Manhattan in the running.
The winner of Bar Wars may have been crowned, but the celebration continues tonight at Smoky Park Supper Club. Enjoy cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres while you hear, see, taste, and smell your way into the fascinating history of the Manhattan cocktail with acclaimed author (and cocktail expert!)
