From the press release:

We have one more film before Asheville Cinema Festival arrives on November 1st, and it is one with an interesting road to theatrical release.

Just before two-time Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner became an A-list actor from his starring roles in The Hurt Locker, The Avengers, and The Bourne Legacy he starred in an independent film named Ingenious.  Having already played and won awards at a strong handful of festivals around the world, the filmmakers have spent the last couple of years raising the money for necessary post-production work.   So, it has sat on the shelf until now that the funds have been raised (a good portion by die-hard Jeremy Renner fans), and it is finally receiving theatrical release.

The film has a clever and compelling story behind it that many critics loved.  Variety’s review read “A terrific yarn, a uniquely American movie. Renner and Roberts are sublimely cast. Could become an indie success story.”  The premise is based on a true story about a pair of inventors trying to find the next big product.  Coincidentally, the film’s production was financed in part by funds raised from selling the very item that’s featured in the movie (and that is teasingly kept from view).

Ingenious tells the story of Matt, (Dallas Roberts) a small-time inventor who keeps coming up with clever but impractical products. Sam, (Jeremy Renner) Matt’s longtime friend and business partner, is a born salesman. Just ask him, he’ll tell you. Gina, (Ayelet Zurer) Matt’s wife, is a flight attendant dealing with the flying public’s bizarre behavior while picking up extra trips to help sustain Matt’s struggling business. One day Matt gets the Big Idea he’s been waiting on to save his business and marriage. Wild money-raising schemes ensue to finance the American Dream product. This is the Southeast premier of the film.
The 93 minute film also stars veteran TV actor and overall “that guy” Richard Kind (“Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Argo).  Ingenious is not rated, but contains adult language, adult content, and sexual situations on par with an R rating.
