You can’t win if you don’t play
Powerball mania swept the mountains as people scrambled to buy their chance at winning the $245 million jackpot, WLOSers said. They talked to people about what they would do if they hit the big one.
Tuesday night wreck in Brevard is lead story at 6 p.m. on Wednesday
Yes, WLOSers led the 6 p.m. Wednesday night news with a car wreck that happened in Brevard on Tuesday night. Some dude crashed into a motorcyle and a couple of other cars and a power pole. The motorcycle rider lost a leg. The driver that hit him was charged with DWI and reckless driving. That was about it.
In other crime news…
An early morning police chase in ahseville led the cops to arrest an 18-year-old wanted for robbing two hotels just hours earlier. The Super 8 and the Sleep Inn were hit. They caught the suspect on Haywood Road after he hit – you guessed it – a power pole… Two 16-year-olds already charged in connection with a June 15 shooting at Chammies car wash on Hendersonville Road have now also been charged with four more counts of discharging a weapon into a vehicle… The cops are still asking for the public’s help with information regarding the July 9 beating of a homeless man near South French Broad Avenue. The man who was beaten died. Call the cops if you know anything…
In even more crime news…
Unlocked cars were robbed in the Ashley Woods and Southwick neighborhoods. Electonics and stuff were stolen. The cops said this ain’t Mayberry any more – lock your car doors… Asheville cops arrested a dude who barged into the Ingles on Haywood road, pulled out a tiny pocket knife, and stuffed seven bags of frozen shrimp into his pants… WLOSers did some kind of lame story about how Polk County High School will have a private security guard instead of a county deputy as a school resource officer, and they quoted Sheriff Abril. But the real question is – whatever happened to those rape charges against Abril???… There was a fire at the Monticello mobile home park on Smoky Park Highway a little after noon on Wednesday, and investigators think it’s arson. Most everyone has moved out of the park, so nobody was injured. A trailer there was also set on fire July 11.
Billy Graham still hospitalized
The Rev. Billy Graham remained in Mission Hospitals on Wednesday. He’s still listed in fair condition, but a hospital spokeswoman said he suffered from a third attack of intestinal bleeding. Doctors are trying to figure out what’s wrong with him.
It’s hot outside
It hit 90 degrees again Wednesday in Asheville. That’s the eighth straight day of 90 degrees or higher, and something like 14 of the 22 days in August so far have been 90 degrees or hotter. That’s pretty incredible, considering that some summers we can go without ever hitting 90 in the mountains.
WLOSers said all the hot weather is actually good news for some businesses. Car mechanics are busy refilling freon and checking car air conditioners. Ice cream parlors are hopping. Bottled water companies are the busiest they’ve ever been. And so it goes…
In some lame news…
Sen. Richard Burr gave Mountain Housing Opportunities a big check to help build houses…. And Pat Simon did a story about how homebuyers need to be careful when buying a home. He didn’t tell us a single thing we didn’t already know.
the peeing thing was in the five or the five thirty. I was just getting off a lunch shift when it came on.
that part was at 11
You left out the best part about the story!
The wreck had two crazy things that news 13 reported.
1) the guy who ran…ran from cops becuase he was peeing in park. That’s it! The man had no warrants, peeing in public is like a 50 dollar ticket or something, and it somehow triggers this catastrophic accident!
and 2) some mystery nurse showed up, saved the motorcycle guys life, then dissapeared before EMS or the Police got her name.
Don’t be hatin ash! Give em props for wacky new angles!
