Sold! Building shell on Banks Avenue in Asheville for $600,000

The shell of an abandoned commercial building at 39 Banks Ave. sold earlier this month for $600,000, according to property records. The buyer, 39 Banks Ave LLC, is registered to a Florida-based developer.

The property sits on a street that lies in the heart of the South Slope, an area that has boomed with new development over the past five years or so. Banks Avenue alone is home to Twin Leaf Brewing, Vortex Doughnuts, Catawba Brewing, Buxton Hall BBQ restaurant and Banks Ave bar, all businesses that have opened in just the past two years.

The vacant building was the site of a fire in September 2014 that fire officials said at the time appeared to be suspicious. The building was also the site of a flower bombing earlier this year, and is a favorite for photographers looking for a gritty location shoot.
