PBR_2013This is a fun event. Press release:

The Professional Bull Riders announced that the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Big Bull Tour, featuring top bull riders from around the country, will compete at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center on Friday May 31st & Saturday June 1st.

Bull riding will begin at 8:00 p.m. Tickets begin at $10 and are on sale now at Alan’s Jewelry & Pawn, Jackson’s Western Wear or www.ticketmaster.com.

The RMEF Big Bull Tour is a special 10 event stretch on Lucas Oil Touring Pro Division calendar. Utilizing the summer months when PBR’s elite Built Ford Tough Series takes its annual break, the Big Bull Tour events will feature some of the biggest names in bull riding, both human and four-legged.

Fans will witness thrilling 8-second rides and jaw-dropping wrecks as the PBR’s insanely brave cowboys risk it all against intense animal athletes that can weigh as much as 2,000 pounds. More than 100 TPD events are sanctioned annually by the PBR, awarding almost $3 million in prize money.

The PBR will celebrate 20 years of competition with the 2013 season. More than 100 million viewers watch primetime PBR programming annually on networks around the world and nearly two million fans attend PBR events each year. PBR has awarded over $120 million dollars in prize money over 20 years of competition, including a $1 million dollar bonus to the PBR World Champion each year.

And a couple of other notes from the publicist:

I also just found out that the cast of the Discovery Channel’s hit show “Moonshiners” will be at the event on Friday and Saturday night signing autographs.

And last but not least, we are putting on a PRCA Rodeo on Sunday afternoon at the Ag Center. It will start at 1:30 pm with a 45-minute horse breaking, then the rodeo will begin. All proceeds from the rodeo on Sunday and a portion from each night of the PBR event will go to Oklahoma Tornado relief (exact charity TBD before the event next weekend).

Invite the rodeo rednecks downtown for an Americana/Burlesque show. Maybe they will find they prefer cows to bulls.

Go skip through the meadow and pick daisies if you want. I’d rather watch competitive bull riding and rodeo.

      Hey Shorty,

I’ve boxed, played football, etc., and the physical abuse I received and dished out took place between willing participants. The animals in rodeos/bull riding don’t sign up to be hurt and killed, they have no choice. Or no chance. These are not sports, they are animal abuse, and have a lot in common with child abuse or spousal abuse. Picking on those who cannot defend themselves is just plain wrong.
What’s your favorite part of rodeos and bull riding? Is it when the animals get maimed, crippled, or killed? Do you enjoy all of the bloodsports? How aboutdogfighting and cockfighting?

Just because I choose compassion over killing doesn’t mean I skip through the meadows and pick daisies. What a strange characterization!

I’m not even going to debate the issue with you because you don’t have a clue. I’ve been around rodeo all my life. You can sleep well tonight knowing that those animals are well cared for. Do exceptions exist? Of course they do. Anybody can dig up a video in support of their uninformed position.

I enjoy the people-watching at the rodeo.

I always wonder if it is more humane to kill an animal for meat or keep it alive for rodeos? Not sure what I think.

This is animal cruelty, and real men are kind to animals.

Really, this is the 21st century. Can’t we find ways to amuse ourselves without torturing animals?

Ive grown up around them and my uncle was a PBR not all rodeos do that and if they did the sport would not be there so please before you say that try to go and get more into it and go to more then one next time (plus those are not the same places)
