Nobody knows the grind of the writing life better than those that work at the daily newspaper, and it’s nice to see local newspaper folk show they’re still relevant by actually writing a book. Longtime Citizen-Times columnist Susan Reinhardt has published a couple of books. Now the newspaper’s sports editor and assistant sport editor join her.

C-T sports editor Bob Berghaus’ book, Black and Blue: A Smash-Mouth History of the NFL’s Roughest Division, details the rough-and-tumble world of the NFL’s old central division, which included the Vikings, the Bears, the Lions and the Packers. It created some great rivalries, and some of the game’s hardest nosed players played here.
From the Amazon.com blurb:
Now known as the NFC North, the rivals still battle each other twice a year, celebrating their 40th season together in 2006. Black and Blue celebrates along with them, recalling the great plays and players, the memorable seasons, and the crucial games through first-hand interviews with players and coaches and first-rate photography. Capsule summaries of every game played in the division make this an essential reference for every football fan.
Later this year, assistant sports editor Karen Chavez will make her publishing debut. Best Hikes with Dogs: North Carolina will certainly appeal to the pet-loving population of Ashvegas and beyond.

From the Amazon blurb:
This guide has everything you need to know to plan a safe fun-filled outing with your dog. Also included: information detailing proper trail etiquette for dog owners and their pets, tips on hiking with dogs and their special needs, dealing with wildlife encounters, and more.
I would note that I don’t "describe" Graham as much as report his own words and those of the presidents and associates who have known him well. If this isn’t the story people have heard before, it is the fault of the mainstream media that has misreported his activities for 50 years. Graham urged Truman, Eisenhower, Johnson, Nixon, Ford and both Bushes into war.
Excellent! Bob is a great story teller. I still laugh when I think about the story he told me about his encounter with the commissioner of baseball. Ask him about it. It will kill you.
Edgy Mama says:
Hurrah Bob and Karen! And, as always, Susan. I have no idea how you guys do the work you do AND produce books.
