Someone claiming concrete information says that the Mountain Xpress is renegotiating the contract with the producer of the Asheville Disclaimer parody page in the wake of some gnashing of teeth over this week’s parody targeting women in business. Women in business was also the subject of a 16-page advertising section in the independent weekly.

The insider claims that the co-producers of the parody, Michele and Tom Scheve, have yet to hear back from MountainXers. The worry is that they might get fired over the whole hullaballoo, the insider says.

We have no clue, unless the Scheves or a MountainXer cares to weigh in here. The Xpress has a long post about the controversy here, and there’s no mention of a renegotiation of what the Scheves produce for Mountain Xpress, though there is some mention of a discussion between both sides.

In our humble opinion, the Disclaimer page sending up women in business simply wasn’t funny. But that’s par for the course. The Disclaimer has been hit-and-miss since it has appeared as a single page in the Xpress. Back in its heydey as a parody paper that came out whenever, the Disclaimer reached heights of biting sarcasm and spot-on comedic commentary not heretofore seen in Ashvegas. But that was then. Why anyone would be offended by what we all know is a joke is beyond us.

What offended us? We were offended that we couldn’t find the damn Disclaimer page in this week’s edition. The newspaper index said page 26, but it actually appeared on page 74.

oops – not sure if you can read or not, but we pretty clearly said somebody was making a claim we hadn’t checked, and we asked for MountainX response, which was given by editor Elliston. ’nuff said. no correction necessary. got it?

but doesn’t seem the Disclaimer is going anywhere, ashvegas. Pretty big announcement you made. Did you even have a source, or do any checking of that source? What’s your "source" have to say about all this? Are you going to post a correction at all or just make huge incorrect announcement and leave it at that? just wondering…

Don’t know who the supposed insider is, Ash, but I can say with utmost certainty that no renegotiation or discontinuation of the Disclaimer page is in the works.

    Long live the Asheville Disclaimer!

Good Lord! The comments on the xpress are hard to believe. It was a bunch of jokes! Some were funny, some where not. They were so over the top that no reasonable person could be offended. The so-called offended people need to get over themselves.

The Disclaimer has been shit since it became a one page piece in the Xpress anyway. Go back to the full-size magazine! Hell I’d even pay a small amount a month to read it.
