Ashvegas.com is teaming up with the Asheville Regional Airport to bring live, local music to travelers at the airport. It’s gonna be fun, folks!

This afternoon at about 4 p.m., we’ll have some great music by The Cheeksters, an awesome local pop band that will be playing at the upcoming Beer City Festival, and songstress Jane Kramer.

You can listen live here. I’ll be doing a little live video via my Facebook page, and of course you can listen later by clicking on the podcast player on the front page.

I started my AVL Informer podcast more than a year ago with co-host Lesley Groetsch. Over the past year, the podcast has morphed to focus more on the local music scene. Musical guests have included Pierce Edens, Aaron “Woody” Wood, Raising Caine, Devils in Dust and more.

The podcast series at the airport will extend through the rest of this year. Please give us a listen – we’re excited about the show – and if you’re interested in being a part of the fun, either as a sponsor or as a musician, send me an email.

Here’s the official press release:

Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) and Ashvegas.com are pleased to announce a new program titled “Music on the Fly.”

Music on the Fly is a special podcast series presented by the Asheville Regional Airport and hosted by Ashvegas.com.

Music on the Fly brings live, local music to the airport – a key gateway to and from western North Carolina. “The airport is one of the anchor organizations of our region, and we welcome thousands of locals and visitors every day through our doors,” said Tina Kinsey, marketing director at Asheville Regional Airport. “Partnering with Ashvegas.com to bring local music to the local travel experience is a great opportunity for all involved.”

The first Music on the Fly event will take place today, May 20, 2016 at 4 p.m. in the gate area of the terminal – performances will be for ticketed passengers who are waiting at the gate for their flights to depart. Featured artists include The Cheeksters/ Wham Bam Bowie Band and songstress Jane Kramer.

The Ashvegas podcast, known as AVL Informer, launched one year ago, and has featured a variety of newsmakers, local personalities and musical acts. The podcast is featured on Ashvegas.com, and is available through iTunes and at www.spreaker.com/show/avl-informer.

Ashvegas.com is one of Asheville’s most popular and longest running independent news and entertainment websites. Started by a former newspaper reporter, the website is a go-to destination for readers who want to know what’s really going on in town. From food and music reviews to breaking news and celebrity sightings, Ashvegas covers it all. With more than 13,500 fans on Facebook, more than 13,000 followers on Twitter and more than 7,500 Instagram followers, Ashvegas has a fantastic web presence and social media reach.

This is a shame. I was really enjoying the AVL Informer, as a show focused on local news and issues. I’ve no need for yet another music podcast.
