Rapid Transit Video announces the premiere of “Coming Home,” a DVD featuring four short films about kayaking from around the world. The premiere will take place at the Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company (675 Merrimon Avenue, North Asheville) on Thursday, December 22 at 10 p.m. Admission is $6 and comes with one raffle ticket; additional raffle tickets will be available for $5 each. Throughout the evening there will be raffle drawings of kayak gear and goodies from local businesses. All proceeds from the raffle as well as a portion of DVD sales will go to benefit non-profits Our VOICE and RiverLink.
“Coming Home” is the collaborative effort of producers Chris Gallaway and Spencer Cooke. Filmed over the course of four years, these stories take viewers to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, the North Woods of Minnesota, the beaches of Europe and South America, and finally back home to the mountains of North Carolina. Through these adventures “Coming Home” explores how waterways connect people to the earth and to other people. These are stories about getting lost, finding friends on the water, making good and bad decisions, and finally coming back home to understand why paddling whitewater can be so meaningful and life-sustaining.
“It’s awesome to see these local paddlers putting together such a great testimony to the power of their sport,” said RiverLink Executive Director Karen Cragnolin. “We also appreciate them remembering us by donating a portion the proceeds, as we continue to make the French Broad and her tributaries places for everyone to live, work and play.”
