–Word on the street: The owner of property along the north end of Broadway Street is considering new development that might include a Taco Bell, a Subway and some townhouses, says a loyal Ashvegas reader. The lot was the location of an Eblen Short Stop convenience store that was closed and torn down early this year.
–AVL Bulletin is a new satire site poking fun at Asheville. Check it.
–Asheville Grit reports that local photographer Steve Mann is selling prints from his recent show at Pink Dog Creative to cover medical bills incurred after his wife Chrystel’s courageous battle with cancer. These gorgeous images include iconic shots from Lexington Ave. and Eagle St. in the 80’s and 90’s.
-The next Hot Glass, Cold Beer event at Lexington Glassworks on South Lexington Avenue is set for Friday starting about 5 p.m. The event will feature a glassblowing exhibition, music by Aereo-Plain String Band, a side project of Brushfire Stankgrass, and beer, of course (and food by Taste & See food truck). Check it.

Checked it. None of the story links seem to work. If it’s supposed to be funny, I don’t get it. And do we need another anonymous website taking whacks at Asheville?
Are those supposed to be mountains in the site’s logo, or two yoga enthusiasts doing downward-facing dog in a funhouse mirror?
When I first glanced at it, I guess I assumed it was a pair of Cthulhus heading for Asheville, but now that I say it out loud, that’s ridiculous – there is no such thing as a “pair” of Cthulhus. There’s only one of Him.
So you’re probably right – yoga enthusiasts.
Townhouses yes, restaurants yes! Taco Bell and Subway . . . no way! Who owns this property?!
Based on county records, the Short Stop property is owned jointly by the children of Mr Dewey W. Beauchamp, who passed away in 2014. (The corner lot is owned by the City.)
There are actually two parcels adding up to 0.72 acres (one parcel undeveloped) in an area zoned as a Neighborhood Corridor District (NCD), a designation that dates back to the old Broadway Corridor Action plan from the mid-2000s, so it’ll be interesting to see whether city council wants to revisit that.
