WHAT TO DO
There are no less than five separate fireworks shows scheduled around Asheville on Wednesday, July Fourth. There will be shows at Biltmore Estate, the Grove Park Inn, downtown Asheville and McCormick Field. There’s also the annual fireworks show at Lake Julian.
The private Biltmore fireworks display near the Inn on Biltmore Estate can be seen from the area around the hotel, according to Tony Kiss in his AC-T roundup of July 4 events.
The Grove Park Inn’s private show for guests, held to celebrate its 99th birthday, might also be viewable from the area around the inn. Here’s the note the GPI shared with its neighbors:
The post-game fireworks show at McCormick Field guarantees great seats (plus concessions)–
there are still $11 general admission tickets left for the Wednesday night game and closing fireworks show. The game sold out, but starting in the 7th inning tomorrow night $3 tickets for fireworks only go on sale. With this ticket you come onto the field after the game to watch the fireworks (you don’t sit in the stands). You also get a voucher for a free ticket to a future game.
The fireworks put on by the City of Asheville are fired this year from the Buncombe County parking deck on College Street, according to Kiss. (Remember that last year, the fireworks were moved to Memorial Stadium due to safety concerns.) The fun begins at 4 p.m. and includes live music, food, and inflatables–and the fireworks start at 9:30 p.m.
WHERE TO WATCH
Ill Start…Since the 90’s my favorite spot was the top floor of the parking deck off of Diane Wortham Theater. YOu get a great view, interesting sound effects from the BB&T building as well as some debris!
We don’t go downtown since we moved out of the city, but when we did the top of the tallest parking deck downtown was the best!
An event for the whole family, the Ingles Fourth of July Celebration festivities start at 4 PM in Pack Square Park and close with fireworks at 9:30 PM. The day features live music, old-fashioned games, a variety of food from area vendors and a grand fireworks finale.
Asheville Tourists baseball game fireworks: Fireworks follow the game
The ever-popular baseball and fireworks double feature begins at 7:05 PM when the Asheville Tourists host the Augusta Greenjackets. After the zipline, baseballs and cheers fill McCormick Field, the Tourists present their annual spectacular fireworks show. Tickets go on sale April 21 and will sell-out ahead of time.
Advance tickets are $10 and will be available at the McCormick Field box office as well as online at theashevilletourists.com.See above for details on getting tickets.
At Lake Julian, fireworks show starts at dark, but come early. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and find a spot along the lake. The park offers picnic tables, grills, a sand volleyball court, two horseshoe pits, boat rental and a playground. Bring a picnic! Park at Estes Elementary School on Long Shoals Road across from the lake. From Asheville take I-26 East to Exit #37. Turn left at the light onto Long Shoals Road.
