Roy Williams 2

Looks like a ton of Carolina star power turned out Sunday for Roy Williams day in Asheville. The Hendersonville paper had a nice story:

The event did not lack for star power.

Former UNC head coaches Dean Smith and Bill Guthridge were in attendance. So were former Tennessee head coaches Jerry Green and Buzz Peterson. Green coached at UNC Asheville and was an assistant to Williams at Kansas, while Peterson was a high school All-American at Asheville before playing for the Tar Heels.

Woody Durham, the longtime “voice of the Tar Heels,” emceed the proceedings, which featured remarks from Baldwin, Green and Brad Daugherty among others.

Daugherty, a former standout at Owen High, UNC and an NBA all-star with the Cleveland Cavaliers, was at the Grove Park to help honor a fellow WNC boy.

The event to honor the now famous WNC native was the brainchild of Asheville resident H. Zeugie Zeugner with proceeds from the $100-a-plate dinner going to the Carolina Covenant, a program designed to help students from low-income families attend the University of North Carolina.
