Better Than College: Asheville author crowdfunds book for $9K, gets blurb from millionaire CD Baby founder

Asheville’s Blake Boles, an advocate of “unschooling,” or seeking nontraditional means to education and success, has a book out tomorrow. Better Than College has attracted attention from CD Baby founder Derek Sivers, who provides the cover blurb, and NYT bestselling author Dan Pink (Drive), who also provides a blurb.

And I don’t think Blake was kidding on Facebook when he mentioned meeting with marketing guru Seth Godin a few weeks ago.

Better Than College was crowdfunded via IndieGogo in March, overshooting its $8500 goal by $700.

In an interesting blog post, Boles shares his publishing journey and his tips for publishing, funding and promoting your own book.

Boles presented his ideas here in Asheville at last February’s Ignite Asheville event, a competition to share the best five-minute presentation, which Boles won.
