The Avett Brothers are having one heckuva year this year. They’ve put out one of the best albums of the year with Emotionalism, they’ve played a gig on late night national television and they’re getting greater and greater attention wherever they go.

That all might add up to a let down. At least that’s what we were bracing for when we zipped on over to Greensboro this weekend to see the boys perform at the War Memorial Auditorium. But we were not disappointed.

The Avett Brothers, live, are simply a force to be reckoned with. They bring incredible energy. And incredible musicality. On Saturday, we watched the guys rock a full drum set, a concert piano and electric guitars, along with the usual guitar-banjo-bass set that we normally see. We also heard several new songs that the boys have been working on.

Just another amazing show by a band we can’t get enough of. Don’t forget – tickets for the Avetts’ two-night stand at the Orange Peel in December go on sale Friday.
