Here’s more of what’s going around, including Quentin Miller’s historic win in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for sheriff. Here we go:

-Buncombe County Democrats nominated Quentin Miller as their candidate for sheriff, the first African-American nominee for sheriff. Miller soundly defeated four other candidates, including Randy Smart and Daryl Fisher. Miller will face Republican Shad Higgins and Libertarian Tracey DeBruhl in November.

-Buncombe County District Attorney Todd Williams beat back a challenge from local attorney Ben Scales in the Democratic primary to secure a second term. Scales criticized Williams for his handling of a case of alleged excessive use of force by an Asheville police officer against a man last year. Williams countered that he worked within the system to get the desired outcome: criminal charges against the police officer, who left the force in January.

-Airbnb says Asheville had the highest percentage of 5-star-rated guest reviews over the past year of any city in the US, earning it the title of “Most Hospitable.” Here’s the link.

-The Asheville Grappling Academy is planning to open in the Leicester Landing shopping center on Leicester Highway.

-The new Asheville-to-Denver flights out of the Asheville Regional Airport start on May 16. Airport director Lew Bleiweis said last week that early flight bookings are at 75 percent and that carrier Allegiant is happy with the addition.

-The Mountain Xpress, Asheville’s independent weekly newspaper, is in its 25th year this year.

-The All Go West music festival in West Asheville will be held June 16-17, and the line-up has been announced.

-A new music series called the Sanctuary Sessions has been announced for the month of June at Central United Methodist. The series is a partnership between Blue Ridge Public Radio and NewSong Music and will benefit Blue Ridge Public Radio. Check out the line-up here.

-The music offerings in Asheville this week are just crazy. Alongside all the amazing local talent that we have performing all the time, check out these out-of-town acts: David Byrne played in town on Tuesday night. On Friday, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats play Highland, while George Clinton plays the Salvage Station and LEAF gets started in Black Mountain w/ Rising Appalachia and more. On Sunday, Brandi Carlisle plays US Cellular Center while LEAF closes with Ani Difranco and more.
