-The N.C. Community Action Association is hosting an Opioid Forum from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Asheville, according to a press release. The day-long event will address North Carolina’s battle with opioid addiction, as well as prevention, education and possible solutions to reduce or eliminate the state’s opioid epidemic. A community-wide resource fair that is free to the public will begin at 2 p.m. and will include service providers who partner in reduction and treatment efforts, according to the press release. The event includes a keynote speaker, panel discussion and the screening of a UNC-TV film about the opioid crisis in North Carolina.
-The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy has reached agreement with Chemtronics Inc. to place 526 acres of non-contaminated land in Swannanoa into a conservation easement, land adjacent to a Superfund site.
