Here’s more of what’s going around:
-Tailgate market season is starting this week around Asheville. Check out ASAP for all the info.
-Jennifer Pharr Davis, a record-setting Appalachian Trail thru-hiker, public speaker and author is opening a downtown Asheville retail shop specializing in cool equipment for fellow AT hikers. Blue Ridge Hiking Company will be holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday to celebrate the new College Street location. Davis is the owner of Blue Ridge Hiking, which she founded a decade ago.
-1055 Haywood Road, a location that was once an unusual local gem mining business and most recently looks like a funky art house, is now being renovated to be a wine bar/garden with indoor/outdoor gathering space and on-site kitchen to potentially make food for patrons, according to construction permits.
-Harvest Pizzeria is the name of the restaurant/bar planned in a single unit building at 39 Banks Ave on Asheville’s South Slope, according to city construction permits. It will have a proposed 3,916-square-foot main level and a 640-square-foot mezzanine level, with a rooftop dining area.
-The Asheville Regional Airport, already a busy place, is about to get a whole lot busier as it kicks off three new flights in May. All three flights are offered by American Airlines. They are: weekend service to LaGuardia Airport in New York; a daily flight to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport; and a flight to Philadelphia International Airport.
-Asheville craft breweries and the Blue Ridge Roller Girls are teaming up for a day full of roller derby and craft beer. The Mashville Challenge is set for June 8 at the US Cellular Center
-New York Butcher, a franchise butcher shop business that ironically got its start in South Carolina, is coming to Hendersonville Road.
-Posies for Lulu Vintage Shop is opening at 25 Rankin Avenue.
-The Plug AVL is the new name for a business going into the upstairs space at 38 N. French Broad Avenue, the current Paradox nightclub (former New Mountain AVL.) I thought a pizza place had opened in the upstairs space, formerly known as the Sol Bar, but I guess that didn’t last.
-Construction is starting on the Nine Mile restaurant location in Biltmore Park.
-12 Bones has started making beer at its new South Asheville brewery.
-White Labs restaurant on Charlotte Street will be open seven days a week starting April 8.
