I grew up with shoes on a wire indicating a retirement from the armed services.

  2. "So it that where we go to get crack or hookers."

I’m sure the Mumps knows the best places for both.

Originally it meant that you lost your virginity (pre-40s, per my Grandfather many years ago) or, in some neighborhoods that you *could* lose your virginity here (aka here there be hookers). Later the military adopted it by throwing your Basic Training boots over your hometown wires (again, signifying a coming of age of sorts).

Now,. apparently it’s been conscripted by neighborhood thugs to means quite a few different things, commonly "sex and/or drugs here"

Uh oh – Mr Mumpower will have a hissy fit over this one, since shoes on a wire are supposed to mean drug dealing in the area. At least that’s the (maybe urban) legend. But I like to think of it as Ashvegas Art.
