Press release below. RAD transportation project overview here. More project information here. Now the release:

On Thursday, December 6, the City of Asheville will host a public meeting to present information and receive feedback about the River Arts District Transportation Project, a section of the Wilma Dykeman RiverWay, TIP U-5019.

This is the third of three meetings for this project and will be an open-house style community meeting.  The consultant team and city staff will present the Recommend Alternative for the River Arts District transportation improvements. The proposed improvements and their impacts will be evaluated in a Categorical Exclusion (CE) Report which is expected to be complete by December 31, 2012. This meeting is a very important step to complete the 30% preliminary engineering design phase of the project.

The purpose of the project is to improve the existing roadway geometric deficiencies along Riverside Drive and Lyman Street in the River Arts District and to enhance the multimodal mobility and system linkages (vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle) along Lyman Street and Riverside Drive by providing efficient and convenient access from Amboy Road to Hill Street. The improvements would enhance safety and provide additional modal options for the traveling public and visitors to the River Arts District. These connections are expected to improve regional pedestrian and bicycle mobility.

The River Arts District Transportation project focuses on a 2.2 mile section of the planned Wilma Dykeman RiverWay. The project is currently funded for the Environmental Documentation and the Preliminary Engineering phase.

The meeting will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Center, 285 Livingston Street, Asheville, NC, 28801 (located at the corner of Livingston and Depot Streets) and is free and open to the public. Parking is available onsite and on adjacent streets.
