Asheville company’s Shakespeare twist: Romeo’s a girl

First Asheville had a steampunk Richard II, from the Montford Park Players. Now local company Different Strokes! Performing Arts collective offers another spin on Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet as young women in love.

I’m not a fan of gimmicky casting choices, but seeing the star-crossed lovers as separated by anti-gay prejudice rather than an inter-family vendetta sounds interesting.
