Here’s a heads-up from loyal reader Damien. I haven’t researched it, but it’s obviously caught the attention of residents. Anybody hear any more about this:

Next Tuesday Sept 14 at 5PM at the City Office is a hearing before the City Council which regards a MAJOR rule change allowing for the establishment of telecommunication towers on residentially zoned properties in Asheville. The first such is being proposed for Lewis Memorial Park cemetery off Beaverdam Rd and they are making space for the proposed 80×40 US Cellular Tower PLUS 3 more towers.

These towers will be bordering a residential neighborhood with children. It is also around the corner from Ira B. Jones Elementary. And, if the rule is passed the cell phone towers will start popping up in other residential neighborhoods.

We’d appreciate if you could alert your readers to this important development and ask them to contact their neighbors and City Council.

Lewis Memorial Park is hardly "around the corner" from Jones school.

How much do the cell phone companies pay to park a cell tower on your property? How do they decide where the towers are needed? How can I get in on this?

Do the readers know that cell phone towers run on microwaves? Having a cell tower in your neighborhood is like haveng a giant cell phone that's always on.

They will only pop up if the land owner wants the extra money. Another words, profit from the towers. You can make big bucks from a cell tower being placed on your land. Nice lightning magnet….
