Here’s the press release we got, which pretty much says it all. As y’all know, the lead singer for Alice in Chains died of major drug abuse a few years ago, on the same date (though 8 years later) as Kurt Cobain.

Alice in Chains “The Acoustic Hour” Tour
When: Tuesday, October 16, 8 p.m.
Where: Thomas Wolfe Auditorium

How much: $40.50, plus applicable service fees, available starting Friday at 10 a.m. at the Asheville Civic Center box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 251-5505 or online at Ticketmaster.com.

The Acoustic Hour is, as you might expect, an acoustic show, much like the band’s acclaimed 1996 MTV Unplugged performance.

The band’s original members are Jerry Cantrell (guitar and vocals), Sean Kinney (drums) and Mike Inez (bass). William Duvall, of Comes with the Fall, started singing with the band last year, continues in the footsteps of the late Layne Staley, who died in 2002. After an eight-year hiatus, the band reunited for a tsunami benefit in 2005, which then rolled into an international tour.

At a recent Acoustic Hour show in St. Louis, the band sat on stools, surrounded by paper lanterns, and performed songs such as “Angry Chair,” “Heaven Beside You,” “Love, Hate, Love,” “Down in a Hole,” and “No Excuses.” They encored with “Would” and “Rooster.”
