Body found
WLOSers were on a story about a man’s body being found buried in his sister’s yard, and the sister’s boyfriend is charged in connection with the death. We didn’t get details because we were tired. But it was down in Polk County, so who cares?
Construction accident
A bunch of lumber came crashing down at a construction site next to Words of Life Tabernacle Church on Glen Bridge Road in Buncombe County.
Volunteers were working on building an addition to the church and had a bunch of roof tresses fall down. Unclear why, but four people were sent to the hospital. WLOSers said there were no life-threatening injuries, but everybody said they were lucky that nobody was killed.
Spicy language
Some students at Scott’s Creek Elementary School in Jackson County saw some naughty words on a computer during computer lab, and it looks like a substitute teacher was allowing kids to chat online or chatting with them. Unclear. Like we said, we were tired. Sheriff Jimmy Ashe is investigating.
Energy-saving tips
Pat “Simple” Simon offered us some good energy-saving tips now that temperatures are cooling down. Simon suggested the following: change your air filters in your home heating system; check for drafts and fix ’em; install storm windows and doors; keep the fireplace damper closed if you don’t have a roaring fire going; service your furnace; check ductwork for leaks; set your indoor thermometer at 68 degrees and keep it there; and reverse the blades on your ceiling fans to force the warm air up there downward.
Jewish celebration
Ashvegas’ Jewish community packed up a bunch of food and sent it out. Rosh Hashanah started at sundown last Friday, and Sunday is the first day of Yom Kippur. Ramadan’s first day was also last Saturday.
