Iraq war follow-up
WLOSer Kassandra “Special K” Pride lead off the news Sunday night following up on President Bush’s announcement last week that some 20,000 more troops will be sent to Iraq.

Kassandra talked to a recruiter, but we just saw video of her talking with him – we never heard him. Then Kassandra had one quick quote form a young woman, Samantha Freeman, who just joined up. There was a farewell party for her and she said she knows she could end up in Iraq, “but whatever happens happens.” Serving and defending the country is what it’s all about, she said.

Hey Julie, will it ever feel like winter out there?
That was the question that Russ “Beefcake” Bowen put to Julie Blunder over in the Accu-Hunch weather center. (Thanks to Bill Geist for that nickname.)

Blunder said we set a new record high on Sunday – 65. The previous high was 63. On Saturday, we tied a record high with a 65 degree temperature reading.

Blunder said it’s going to rain. And there could be some snow.

Powerball getting up there
There were no winners Saturday night in the Powerball drawing, so the jackpot is up to $180 million. The next drawing is Wednesday.

In other news…
Park Ridge Hospital folks went to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Arden for a health fair… And beekeepers, and those who want to keep bees, gathered at the Folk Art Center Sunday afternoon to learn more. Some 200 people signed up for the three-week beekeeping course. Buncombe County has one of the most active beekeeping clubs in the state.
