UPDATE July 31: Twitter-er @CharlieTraveler reports the following:
BREAKING #Asheville NEWS: Tiger Mountain has purchased @eloasheville and will be renaming it and moved in by next week!
Tiger Mountain owner Sean Bickford confirms in an email to me that the deal is on. He plans to close on Saturday, then move Tiger Mountain on Broadway over to the former Emerald Lounge space on North Lex. Congrats!
ORIGINAL POST July 21:The boys at Tiger Mountain Thirst Parlour on Broadway in downtown Asheville are planning to move their operation just around the corner to the Emerald Lounge space on north Lexington Avenue.
The Emerald Lounge operation at 112 N. Lexington Ave. has been for sale since May. The bar owner has faced financial difficulties. Music at the venue stopped a couple weeks ago.
Tiger Mountain opened in June 2012 at 103 Broadway with Sean Bickford and Jamie Hepler, two well-known local bartenders, at the helm. (Hepler is no longer involved.) Their plan at the start was to have a bar and a live music venue, but the live music part hasn’t come together for them at the Broadway space. Taking over the Emerald Lounge space would give them that ability.
If Tiger Mountain makes the move, it would join a strip of some of Asheville’s most personality-filled bars. Broadway’s is already known as a great late-night hangout. The Crow & Quill, which took over the old Blender Gallery space at 106 N. Lexington Ave., has a Victorian flair which leads me to refer to it as Asheville’s secret vampire bar. And Chris Bower of West Asheville’s Double Crown bar is planning to open a second bar above Forever Tattoo at 98 N. Lexington Ave. (I also shouldn’t forget the newly opened Buchi Bar at 116 N. Lexington Ave. below Rosetta’s Kitchen.)
I have to say congrats to the Sean and the rest of the Tiger-Mountain team! It certainly sounds like this move will help them grow in the direction they want and add some live music into a compelling mix. That strip of bars does have a lot of personality, and it sounds like it just got that much better.
What happened to Jamie?
