There are all kinds of things floating around Asheville’s Twitterverse today, so let’s get right to it:

@Down-Poor tweets that word on the street is that film director Steven Spielberg and actor Nicolas Cage are in Western North Carolina, scouting locations. On the one hand, that sounds quite incredible. An AP story from two days ago reported that Cage just arrived in Turkey to film a new movie. On the other hand, James Franco, who will be co-hosting one of the big Hollywood events of the year, The Oscars, was in town just last week.

The Avett Brothers were reportedly at Echo Mountain Recording Studio again last week. I haven’t heard what they were up to. They recorded their last album there, and the worked with G Love there on his upcoming album, which I can’t wait to drop next month.

@rorris tweets that he recently picked up a flyer stating that Harvest Records was planning a “grand re-opening” for March 4, and wonders what’s going on. The awesome independent record store also just launched a design contest for a new outdoor sign for the store.

@Sanuk_D did a fine job of tweeting the speech of political insider/commentator Donna Brazile at this morning’s MLK Prayer Breakfast. He reported that her remarks were touching and inspiring. He also wrote that former Asheville Mayor Leni Sitnick hosted a couch-surfing” Brazile some 30 years ago. Great! Brazile also mentioned that she might like to retire in Asheville.

-S&W Steak and Wine Inc. has filed for bankruptcy. That’s all I’ve got right now on the restaurant in downtown Asheville in the S&W Building on Patton Avenue.

Asheville cracks me up sometimes. We fancy ourselves as oh so sophisticated and cosmopolitan, yet every week it seems we are falling over ourselves about the latest celebrity siting in town. Remember when Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman moved here? How about Robin Williams? Ben Afflect, Matt Damon, the list goes on of celebrities somebody's mother's co-workers, friend's cousin's boss' daughter's roommates' brother's girlfriend's neighbor's hair stylist's uncle swore he knows somebody who saw them

Maybe Steven Spielberg is in town to visit that entire floor on condos he was supposed to have bought downtown a few years ago.

Come on Asheville, let's grow up.

Very good one jb…..I've thought the same thing many times in reading music posts on here. I hear Jason has a collection of his favorite Avett Brothers boy-band posters in his bedroom! LOL, that was hilarious.

Do directors/producers and stars at the level of Spielberg and Cage scout their own locations? Or do they have location scouts to do this?

    Dear Jason

40 year-old white guys should never say that they can't wait for an album to "drop", it reeks of being a middle-aged person desperately seeking relevance. The correct phrase for this album being put on sale is "to be released". Please grow more comfortable with yourself and update your thesaurus.

    Love,

Jason Bugg (a fellow aging hipster).
